Extremely obscure, “Orange Border” cards were cut from 1910 candy boxes that included the following typography: “American Sports and Candy and Jewelry”. The end flaps indicated that the producers were the “Geo. Davis Co., Inc. and the P.R. Warren Co., Warrenville Lowell, Mass. While the box stated that 144 subjects are included, only some 30 subjects are currently known to exist, a sure testament to the ultra-obscurity of this issue. One of the esteemed Hall of Fame subjects is the legendary southpaw Eddie Plank and it is his stellar eye pleasing specimen presented here in an SGC 40/3 holder. How rare is this card at the “VG” level? Consider that it is the SOLE copy at this plateau with NONE graded higher on ANY grading service’s census report! Indeed, you are now viewing the finest Orange Border Plank on the planet! As a testament to the irrefutable condition sensitivity of Orange Border issues, the COMBINED SGC and PSA census reports list 123 encapsulated copies for ALL of the known subjects, with only 7 or 6% graded higher, 15% standing at the “VG” level, and a whopping 79% carrying lower technical assessments.

Eddie Plank’s hobby status requires no introduction due to his world-class T206 subject. Yet, the hallowed Plank portrait image affixed to his renowned T206 card is evident on many other type issues, while this “unique” Plank pitching pose has eluded all of his “T” and “E” cards. The extremely nebulous “hands over head” pitching pose reveals vivid registration and a tranquil eye pleasing quality, ably assisted by a robust brown setting and classic orange frame. The somewhat rounded corner wear portrays a super eye pleasing uniformity, with the only surface blemishes being some light stray wrinkles barely visible to the naked eye. The undisputed finest encapsulated copy on the planet, this eclectic Eddie Plank marvel would immediately augment the most sophisticated Hall of Fame or type card compilation!
