“Gettysburg” Eddie, as he was commonly called, is one of the game’s greatest southpaw pitchers, justified by his 327 lifetime wins and eight 20 win seasons. The prestige associated with his renowned 1909 T206 tobacco card has placed his vintage cards high on collector's want lists, with his esteemed Cracker Jack card one of the most coveted Plank specimens in the hobby. Presented here just happens to be an SGC Near Mint gem of this iconic Hall of Famer with only three other copies existing at this plateau, and a mere two examples graded higher! Although he is wearing his Famous Philadelphia Athletics uniform, his 1915 Cracker Jack lists him as a member of the St. Louis club of the newly formed Federal League that he defected to in 1914. His representation on this offering is nothing short of sensational with a classic portrait pose set against a “fire engine” red background. The fine “top to bottom” centering is somewhat offset by the image favoring the left edge. Yet strong square corners, sharp edging and a super clean surface all combine with the outstanding image to complete a an aesthetically pleasing obverse side. The final compliment to this Near Mint gem is the backside vividly registered black print, set against a blemish free surface. Like Plank, this cardboard masterpiece is a sure winner that would immediately augment any advanced vintage collection!
