In 1916, the Ferguson Bakery Co. of Roxbury, Mass. Gave away small felt pennants for the purchase of five-cent loaves of their bread. Measuring 2-7/8” x 6”, 97 different players were offered and are commonly designated as “BF2 Pennants”.Once called the “$11,000 Lemon,” ($11,000 was Marquard’s original price tag), the great pitcher would later win 19 straight and record over 200 big league wins. Fond of the stage life, Marquard married vaudeville actress Blossom Seeley and performed on “the circuit” in the off-season.
