One of Lou Gehrig’s most desirable Cards is his rather eclectic 1933 DeLong subject issued by the DeLong Gum Company in direct competition versus Massachusetts Goudey Gum Company. By far the most valuable and desirable subject of this popular set, it portrays one of the most imposing Gehrig batting images extant, as Gehrig completes his mighty swing within an extremely colorful baseball, stadium backdrop. Presented here is a stellar PSA 4.5 offering that stands as one of only two specimens at this mid-grade plateau with only 21% of the 80 examples graded higher! There isn’t a single person unfamiliar with Gehrig’s iconic farewell speech on July 4, 1939 when the Yankee legend declared himself the “luckiest man on the face of the earth”. Gehrig’s tragic death at the tender age of 37 along with his incomparable batting prowess left in indelible mark on our National Pastime, and synonymous with that immortal speech, the new owner of this brilliantly hued offering can likewise consider themselves a fortunate vintage enthusiast!
