There are those who say that Feller could have become the greatest pitcher of all time had it not been for WWII. Ironically, Feller was the first professional athlete to enlist for duty, signing his name on Uncle Sam’s dotted line on December 8, 1941 . . .the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed. Feller loved to talk baseball, but always repeated that his greatest accomplishment in life was helping protect America and freedom from the greatest threat in its history. RIP Rapid Robert. Baseball doesn’t seem the same without you.
