The significance of any 1948 Musial card can never be overlooked, particularly this early Bowman. In 1948, Musial won his third and final MVP and had perhaps the greatest season of any hitter, certainly any National League hitter, on record. Musial led the league in every batting category but home runs – and he easily would have captured the home run crown if not for several roundtrippers cancelled due to rainouts. For the season, Musial hit .376 with 230 hits, 46 doubles, 18 triples, 39 home runs, and 131 RBI’s, to go with a .450 on base percentage, a .702 slugging percentage and 429 total bases.
