The current high bids for the cumulative group of singles, $135,385.00, is currently higher than the total for the complete set, $126,377.00 (this lot is currently winning)
The Indians were aging and in decline. The team that had dominated the AL in ’54, finished just under .500, as middle-of-the-pack non-contenders. Feller was gone. And the trio of Lemon, Wynn and Garcia accounted for only 30 wins total, a figure each of the great hurlers had once been capable of nearing individually. On offense, Gene Woodling surprised everyone, hitting .321, 40 points higher than any other Cleveland player. Only nine other singles have been graded this high, with only three graded higher.
