Officially named “Baseball’s Greatest On One Field,” this stunning 20-by-24-inch color art print of the legendary Satchel Paige on acid-free poster board is surrounded by 198 autographs of Negro Leaguers, including members of the Baseball Hall of Fame and a number of players who also saw action in the major leagues, plus all three women who played in the Negro Leagues. The artwork, licensed by Curtis Management for the use of Paige’s likeness, is by the acclaimed artist Michael Mellett, and is signed in pencil by the artist, who added an edition number of 176/1000. About half of the 198 signers are deceased. The Negro Leaguers have adorned the art print with a spectacular array of bold Blue Sharpie and blue ballpoint pen autographs; they neatly encircle the vibrantly colorful Paige artwork picturing the Hall of Famer in his Kansas City Monarchs uniform, circa 1942, as noted in gold leaf imprint on the lower portion of the print. The print’s title, “Baseball’s Greatest On One Field,” is also imprinted in gold leaf on the lower part of the artwork. This is arguably one of the most remarkable pieces of Negro League history, simply spectacular artwork that provides a historical record of so many legendary figures from the long-defunct circuit. In the detailed listing below, Hall of Famers are bold-faced; players with major league experience in italics. The listing of autographs is as complete as was feasible; the paperwork that accompanies the artwork included some handwritten names that couldn’t be deciphered.
