This amazing relic from a bygone era comes directly from a cigar label collection owned by the CEO of a cigar company. After back-to-back pennant winners, Hughie Jennings was awarded his own line of cigars during the 1909 season—a year in which the Tigers would again, unsuccessfully, represent the AL in the October Classic. The label offered here features an amazing photo illustration of Jennings flanked by timeless baseball imagery. Lightly embossed with vivid gold overlays, a faint hint of light paper loss is barely visible along the upper right border; however, this label was never glued to a box or used, having been lovingly stored since it was printed over a century ago. A museum quality antiquity, this unusual and unique label represents a solid and possibly profitable investment. Cigar labels are accelerating in value and are considered by many to be a “fast-rising hobby”. This unique label provides a bridge between the worlds of sports and tobacco memorabilia and does so with grace and elegance. We have never handled this particular item in the past and feel privileged to offer it in this auction.
